Is correct to write "thanks allot", or is just a spelling mistake?
A friend that is from USA wrote me that, but I'm not sure if it's a spelling mistake that is common in natives English speakers or if it's okay.

It is a spelling mistake. Often people will write "thanks alot" but that is also incorrect. The correct form is "thanks a lot". Pura Vida ; )
