I would highly recommend you to read Dan Brown's 'The Da Vinci Code' because it's one of the best thriller novels I've ever read. If you are interested in fantasy, try out Cynthia Hand's trilogy namely Unearthly, Hallowed and Boundless. Other than that, you can read the Harry Potter series which I guess you probably would be aware of.

Have you checked out www.gutenberg.org ? It is a website with over 50,000 books generally no longer covered by copyright (because they were written a few decades ago).

Maybe you would find F. Scott Fitzgerald interesting to read: "The Beautiful and Damned" is a story about the cafe society (1920s USA). "The Great Gatsby" is a cautionary tale about the American dream. He also wrote over 100 short stories, that usually focus on the Jazz age in 1920s and 1930s Americaies.
