'next day' vs. 'the following morning'
The woman walked out of the shop angrily and decided to punish the assistant *next day. She returned to the shop *the following morning dressed in a fur coat.
--from New Concept English book 2, (the most influential English textbook in China, written by a British professor, it is called 'the classic' here)
Why 'next day', without 'the', but 'following morning', with 'the'?
You may just tell me this is what real English is, and I will remember it. Or you may explain it in detail.
Thank you!
