What is the difference between 别 and 其他 ie what is the difference in meaning in these two sentences? Is the first one incorrect? 别的人说.. 其他人说... Thanks!

In this case, they are the same but the second sentence is more general. However, it does not mean that 別 and 其他 are similar words. The wold "別" has many different meanings. For example, separation, a no, the difference and so on.
