Good question! In Portuguese, there is no sense of "present perfect". Something either is past or present :) That is the problem! Sometimes we interpret it as present and sometimes as past. That is the reason for your confusion. Be aware that 'tem feito' means 'has been doing'.

(You are taking into account the one you are listening to, and that was true only in the past) However, if you are looking at a list of pieces of music and you point out one of them, you can only say: Faz muito tempo que não ouço essa música.
