What is the difference between the words "tão" and "muito" in Brazilian Portuguese? For example: Estou tão cansado. Estou muito cansado. If possible please explain the answer in English. Obrigado.

Estou muito cansado.=I am much/very tired. (Saying a fact objectively.) Estou tão cansado.=I am so tired. (Saying the fact emotionally.) Eu estou tão cansado (que não consigo trabalhar). I am so tired (that I cannot work). When you say 'tão', you make people imagine the consequences of that, because you omit the second part of the sentence.

É basicamente o mesmo que "so" (tão) e "very" (muito) em inglês Estou TÃO (qualidade) QUE... < essa qualidade tem uma implicação Estou TÃO (qualidade) QUANTO... < essa qualidade pode ser equiparada a uma situação análoga Estou MUITO (qualidade). < a ideia se encerra em si mesma
