Is "I think grateful" grammatically correct?and what‘s the meaning of grateful here? It was a little strange, meeting up with Jon and walking over to the multi-purpose room for lunch. But he was just so nice, and I think grateful that I'd bid, that by the time we got situated at our table, I wasn't feeling so awkward or silly. It was just lunch. I only know that you feel grateful when somebody helped you, but here the girl bid on the boy to help him out, so I'm confused about who is she "grateful"?

'Grateful' refers to the boy. The girl thinks that the boy was grateful to her for bidding in the auction. The full form is this: But he was just so nice, and I think [that he was also] grateful that I'd bid The two clauses are parallel: they both contain adjectives ( nice/grateful) which refer to the boy. There is therefore no need to repeat the pronoun and verb ('he was'). We read 'He was ..' in the first clause and we carry this forward to the second clause. The words 'he was' before 'grateful' are understood.
