In a literal sense: To me= transferring ownership or possession of something, or indicating a direction of movement (i.e. towards) "It's mine now, he gave it to me." "She handed the paper to me." "He walked over to me." For me= on my behalf, I am the intended recipient of something "Could you run to the store for me?" "Is that letter for me?" Also, some fixed phrases: -As for me... (As for me, I don't care what he does.) -To me [opinion/observation]. (To me, the wedding seemed perfect.) -[Something] is not for me. (Even though you like it, spicy food is not for me!)

A rough general guide is "to me" when you ask somebody to give something to you. "for me" is for when you ask somebody to get something for you/ for you to use/enjoy/eat etc. There are times when you can interchange or mix them together. "Please can you go to the shop and get/bring some hair shampoo for me, and make sure you give it to me, and nobody else" Supply some sentences you have made and let others correct them and discuss when they would use one and not the other, and when they would interchange "to me' and 'for me'

This is definitely a tricky one and I think that it often isn't clear which is best. I don't often see it used incorrectly by native speakers, so I guess we have a feel for it. In my mind the key difference is between: - Something being done, or given, TO you. - Something being done FOR you, that benefits you. 1) He gave the gift to me (obvious). 2) He did it for me (he did something that benefits me). 3) This article is interesting to me (the article gives you some information that you find interesting) 4) Reading about languages is beneficial for me (it is useful to me and I get the reward of language skills - a specific thing - from it) The last one could probably be 'to me' and it would still be ok. That's where it can get complicated. Note that isn't the case with 2) because it would change the meaning from him doing you a favour, to him doing something to you. As I understand it, in order to use 'for' you need some kind of tangible benefit.

This is a good question. But sometimes the small things are the most difficult to explain. Can you give an example that is confusing?
