I am confused by the difference of "flip", "flop" and "flick". All of them describe particular moving manners. In addition, why the "flip-flops" is a kind of slippers?

To "flip" is to jump and then rotate your body forward or backward in a full circle while you are in the air. To "flop" is to fall and land on your belly. To "flick" is use your index finger as a lever in a quick motion to send something flying away. Loose sandals are called "flip-flops" because they move about as you walk in them.

I don't understand what I've said that violates the guidelines. I think something I wrote has been picked up by a bot and been misunderstood.

'Flip' is usually used with 'over' - to flip something over means to turn it over. So if you are looking at a piece of paper and you turned it over so the side you were looking at is now underneath, you've flipped the paper over. You can also 'flip a switch' which means to switch something on or off: 'Can you flip the light switch?' means either 'can you turn the light on?' or 'can you turn the light off?'. Flip is used in conversation but you wouldn't use it in formal writing. 'To flop' means to slump down or to fall over. It's difficult to describe. It usually means that something has fallen over or collapsed because it isn't strong enough to remain up right. For example you could say 'I was so tired I flopped into the chair', which means you were so tired and weak you couldn't sit down properly, you sort of fell into the chair. Or a plant that hasn't been watered enough might 'flop over' because its stem doesn't have enough water to stand up straight. To flick something means to touch something lightly and quickly with your hand or finger so that thing moves quickly and suddenly. You could flick a screwed up piece of paper, for example. If you form an 'O' shape with your first finger and thumb, and then straighten your finger, you're making a flicking movement. Again, it's quite difficult to describe! :-) I guess, flip-flops are so called because as you lift your foot off the ground the bottom of the shoe flips upward, a bit like a switch. But maybe it's just a fun name for them and doesn't really have a precise meaning! These are difficult words to describe but I hope that helps a bit!
