🌲 Can you describe the atmosphere of this place in Japanese?
I took this photograph at Nikko Toshogu.
There were many visitors around me, but the moment I walked beneath the enormous cedar trees, the atmosphere somehow felt quieter and more solemn.
In Japanese, we sometimes say:
「空気が変わる」
Literally, it means “the air changes,” but it can also describe the feeling that the entire atmosphere of a place has suddenly changed.
For example:
「鳥居をくぐった瞬間、空気が変わったように感じました。」
“The moment I passed through the torii gate, I felt as though the atmosphere had changed.”
Now it’s your turn:
この写真を見て、どんな雰囲気を感じますか?
人が多くても、落ち着ける場所はありますか?
あなたの国にも、入った瞬間に「空気が変わる」と感じる場所がありますか?
In my lessons, we use real photographs, signs, travel experiences and Japanese culture as starting points for conversation.
You won’t simply memorize vocabulary. You’ll practice describing what you see, expressing how you feel, explaining your experiences and keeping a real conversation going in Japanese.
If you understand some Japanese but still find it difficult to express your thoughts naturally, let’s work on it together. 📷🇯🇵
