(one is past and the other is past perfect) For example: "I went to the shop yesterday" - there's only one action that you are talking about in the past Gone is the past participle of the verb "to go" and can be used for the past perfect tense which describes something that happens before something else. For example: I had already gone to the shop before I went to the cinema.
