Gun laws in the Czech Republic
In the Czech Republic, we have five types of gun licences. Twenty-one is the majority age requirement, but exceptions are allowed in certain situations.
The first type is for handling historic guns. These guns must be unable to fire. You need to be 21 years of age or older.
The second type is for sporting purposes. In this case you can be fifteen, but you need proof of a sports club membership. If you are not a member, you need to be at least eighteen years of age.
The third type is for hunting purposes. The rules are similar to the previous type, but for those who are underaged. You must have a hunting license instead of a club membership. Otherwise, the age of eighteen is required.
For the previous two groups, the gun can not be loaded and charged.
The fourth group is "Professional Needs". This is for law enforcement personnel, members of the Armed Forces or any other individuals who use guns in their profession. Some of them can or must 'Open Carry', and you must be at least eighteen. Twenty or twenty-one years of age is preferred.
The last group is "Self-defense". You must be twenty-one years of age with no exceptions.
With this type of license, you can have your gun loaded, but it must be concealed.
Beside age, you must undergo a health check evaluation with general practitioner. Also, you can not be diagnosed with a mental illness. If once is diagnosed later, your licence is automatically rescinded. In addition you need to have a clean criminal record.
Before you can obtain your licence. You must pass a written "Gun handling" and "Gun law" exam. Afterwards a practical test follows. Where your shooting accuracy and your gun handling techniques are evaluated. The passing score depends on the type of license that you are applying for.
