Sonomi Takatsuka

I really like the lessons. They are a stretch for me but she has a good way of making it fun and is always supportive. She is providing the conversation practice that was lacking in previous instructors.

I've been studying with sensei for about 3 months now, and I can wholeheartedly recommend her lessons! Sensei's lessons are always thoughtfully prepared, well structured, and highly customised to your needs. One perk is that sensei is very fluent in English, which means that if you're an English speaker trying to figure out more complex grammar, she's able to explain the nuances clearly with examples. Sensei also does not default to just doing a lot of drills (although if that's your thing I'm sure she's happy to cater to your needs!), she really figures out what your priorities are for learning and adjusts to them. I would highly recommend taking a class with her!

Sonomi Takatsuka is kind, helpful and patient. I really enjoy the lessons. They are challenging and productive.

Takatsuka Sensei is the perfect mixture of firm and friendly. She really wants you to speak perfectly, and is clear when you have made a grammatical error, but the way that she lets you know is really nice and encouraging and motivates you to be better. I would definitely recommend her to any potential students.

I was anxious about speaking Japanese after a long time not using it, but Sonomi-san is very friendly and easy to talk to. We have talked about a variety of subjects, and our conversations have challenged me to try and express things in Japanese that I haven’t before. It has been good practice. I think she would be suitable for all levels.
