I came across an interesting article online about a planet with unique shape. I would like to share some of the interesting points here. We have been thinking that planets have rounded shape. Without exception, the exoplanets that have been discovered so far ,not to mention planets in solar system, have close to rounded shapes. The planet called PSRJ2322-2650, which was discovered 2,000 light-years far from the earth, defied conventional wisdom. According to the result by the research team in Chicago university, its atmosphere is rich in carbon and has lemon-shape due to its extreme internal pressure. The reason why a planet has rounded shape is because its gravity pulls substances toward the center with evenly distributed power from all direction. This planet is not common star and it goes around the celestial body called Pulser in about 7.75 hours. On the other hand, the planet's rotation period is the same and the same side of the planet always faces the Pulser. That means it is in a state of tidal locking like between the Moon and the Earth. As a result, one side is always pulled toward the Pulser and the other one toward outside. Unfortunately, it sounds like we are not able to see real image of the planet yet because they reached the result by space clock which receives signals from the radio beam. So, I really hope we can see the planet through images like photos from an airship as long as I live.
