"Animal Farm" by George Orwell is a political allegory that tells the story of a group of farm animals who rebel against their human farmer and establish a new society where all animals are equal. The novel is set on a farm in rural England, and the story is told from the perspective of the animals.
At the beginning of the story, the animals are oppressed by their human farmer, Mr. Jones, who mistreats them and takes advantage of their labour. The animals, led by the pigs Snowball and Napoleon, rise up against Jones and take control of the farm. They establish a set of commandments, which they call "Animalism," and declare that all animals are equal.
Initially, the animals work together to build a new society where they can live in peace and prosperity. However, as time goes on, the pigs, who have taken on the role of leaders, begin to consolidate their power and impose their will on the other animals. Snowball, who represents Leon Trotsky, is driven out of the farm by Napoleon, who represents Joseph Stalin.
Napoleon becomes increasingly authoritarian and corrupt, and he uses his power to enrich himself and his inner circle of pigs. The other animals suffer under his rule, and the farm becomes a dictatorship. The commandments are changed to suit the pigs' interests, and the animals are forced to work harder and harder.
In the end ..........
The novel is a powerful allegory for the rise of Stalinism in the Soviet Union and the betrayal of the ideals of the Russian Revolution. It is a cautionary tale about the dangers of political power and the need for eternal vigilance to protect freedom and democracy.
