Hello Everyone! Today I'll share with you another part of Nezahualcóyotl's History, the Texcoco's Tlatoani (King), "The Poet King". Icnocuícatl or songs of suffering. This poem classification it's called Icnocuícatl or Suffering (Anguish) songs, a poetic genre typical of Nahuatl literature, according to Zora Rohousová's article "Debajo del árbol florido" (Beneath the flowering tree). In these poems, the poet is aware of the terrible and inexorable destiny of death. Death is not represented as a menace to the individual, but as that which gives meaning to human existence. No one lives forever. The Poet King knows that his condition of king will not save him or anyone else.The King Poet is, before the word, a naked man who sees himself as equally condemned, and, in this condition, he identifies himself with every human. The Poet King uses one of the most beautiful images of the Nahuatl language: "Like a painting/ we will be erased". Image, a phantasmagoria, an announced absence. This is how life and death are represented, the fleetingness of existence, the homesickness of the trace. "Where will we go?" he asks. "To the place of the fleshless," he replies. Other poems will redound around these questions. It is only to look at his words to understand the human density of Nezahualcóyotl.
