Hello everyone, I was here on Italki answering a question about a sentence where the modal verb 'would' is used to make a conjecture. The sentence is from Alien Covenant. I remember that. One of the characters, after hearing something unknown in their communication net says, 'That would be an echo.' It doesn't sound strange to me because that's how we speculate in Spanish mostly. However, I'm trying to find something on the Internet and I can't. Isn't the use of would common in this sense? Thanks a lot folks!
