A long long TIME ago, there WAS a big scary beast named Nian, whose name meanT year. On the last day of every lunar year, it would sneak into the village and SCARE everyone, even the animals, until a wise man told the VILLAGERS that Nian was afraid of three things: loud noises, fire and the colour red. The next time Nian came, the VILLAGES BANGED the drums as loud as they COULD, lit a lot of fireworks and wore the color red from head to toe. Nian RAN far away and never came back.
