Definition:
When someone says, "That's the last straw," it means that a series of problems or difficulties has reached a breaking point, and the person can no longer tolerate or handle the situation. It’s used to express frustration after the final problem in a long line of issues.
Origin:
This idiom comes from the saying, "The straw that broke the camel's back." 🐪 This refers to the idea that even though a camel can carry a lot of weight, there is a limit. Adding just one more piece of straw can be enough to make the load too heavy, causing the camel to collapse. It symbolizes how even small things can be too much when someone is already overwhelmed.
Sample Sentences:
1. After dealing with so many delays at the airport, losing my luggage was the last straw—I was ready to give up on the trip.
2. The noise from the construction next door was annoying, but when it started at 5 AM, that was the last straw for me.
