A few days ago, I finished watching a Japanese drama named Chef is a detective on Netflix. The drama is set in a French restaurant called Bistro Pas Maru, where chef Mifune, sous chef Shimura, wine sommelier Kaneko, and garcon Takatsuki work. Everyone is unique and interesting, but chef Mifune is especially unique. He not only cooks delicious food, but also carefully observes the customers who come to the restaurant, and makes deductions, and solve their worries and fix problems as well. What's interesting about the drama is not just the chef's reasoning. I'm not familiar with French cuisine, so it's interesting to learn about various French dishes, sweets, and technical terms in each episode. For instance, there is a traditional French sweet called galette des rois that appears in episode 3. It is a sweet that is eaten during Epiphany, and when it is baked, a bean doll called fève is placed in it, and it is said that if it is inside the cut piece, it will bring happiness for the rest of the year. Thus, we can learn French culture through the drama. I was really excited to know new things every episodes. So, since I watched the drama, I became a little interested in French cuisine.
