"Differentiate" is a stronger word. Rather than just noticing differences, you are actually dividing things into separate categories. For example, "this machine weighs the eggs to differentiate the large, medium, and small eggs." "Distinguish" just notices differences. For example, "the fact that that egg is broken distinguishes it from all the others."

Hello, Charlie. Both words are very similar to each other, but can have some slight differences. • Distinguish is the act of being able to determine or ascertain what you’re looking for. “I was able to distinguish my cat from the clutter.” It can also be used to recognize someone prominent according to their achievements. “She was a distinguished doctor.” • Differentiate is used when you’re able to identify differences. “We were able to differentiate this cat because of its unique fur patterns.” While both words can be used interchangeably in most cases, these instances make each word sound more natural and correct. Cheers.
