My name is Aleksandra but most people call me Sasha. It's Greek and (it) means a protector. In Sasha we have only the Sa part from AlekSAndra I've read an article about this and it happened because Aleksandr (masculine form) became Aleksasha, after that Russian people eliminated the Alek part of the name and now the most common contraction for Aleksandra is Sasha.
