Hello dear native speakers
Does it make sense to use "transparent" in the following sentence? If yes, what does it mean here?
The Internet has made long distances almost transparent, allowing users to correspond with people on the other side of the planet in an instant.
Thanks in advance

'Transparent' is commonly used this way to mean something like 'invisible'. So here the distance is hardly noticeable. 'Transparent' is also used to mean that a person is being highly obvious or has made no effort to hide. The two uses seem opposite to each other, which can be confusing.

Hello Saeiiiid,
Well to answer your first question, if it makes sense to use "Transparent" in the guven sentence, yes it does make sense and it is quite perfect to use it in the sentence.
Coming to the second question, it means that the internet has made it easy for people to see through the othwr side of the world in a metaphoric way (meaning in a imaginary way) as you can reach out to people from any corner of the globe. To be precise, the word "transparent" here, refers to the communicational barriers people used to have in the past due to lack of the internet.
I hope this answers your question. You can always reach out to me for any further questions. 😄 Good luck!

I agree with Rosco.
No, it doesn't make sense to describe long distances as transparent because of the internet (or any other reason).
That would suggest that long distances, before the internet, were 'visible'.🤔
The problem is you can't 'see' a distance.
As Rosco, suggests :meaningless' would be a good substitute, or maybe, 'irrelevant', or 'unimportant'.
These words all make sense here.

Doesn't make sense to use it to me. I'd use "meaningless" instead. Maybe it could be understandable to use "transparent" but it is a bit confusing and awkward.
