There is also the issue that the language you want to learn is extremely popular.

 arabic is the most difficult language for me, altough i'm arabian but i cant speak arabic, what is worse than it?? Haha

In common, it takes time to find a partner on italki but you should keep involved with the others through the entire discussions. Additionally, you need to find someone who needs to practice English. Both of you may practice together. This way is easier for you till you find a native speaker of English.  

Perhaps it is not as popular as European or Asian languages.

I myself am studying Arabic, but only the Egyptian dialect.
