Do Japanese people eat sushi every day? I've always wondered whether Japanese people really eat sushi every meal, as we Italians do with pasta, or if it's just an European false idea.

I'd like to add something to Mike's comment.

Yes, Japanese have quite wide variety of dishes, but many of those are not actually originally from Japan!

Let me stress it: and there is nothing wrong with that! Japanese have a tendency of copying things from other people, and making it better!!

A short list of "typical" Japanese foods, that are not originally Japanese:

1) tempura (Portuguese),

2) gyoza (Chinese),

3) raamen (Chinese), and last but not least

4) sushi (Chinese).

And what about the Japanese Cotton Cheesecake? Have you ever heard about it? I've found a recipe on YouTube, by Ochikeron, which has become very famous all over the world and I'd like to try and bake it.

Good question. My answer to the question is "No, I don't know any Japanese person who eat every day or for every meal." Sushi is still considered as a superb meal at nice restaurants. Generally speaking, we Japanese have a kind of set consisted of rice and miso soup and main dish(like, grilled fish, raw fish, chicken ) for lunch or dinner ordinary. Rice and miso soup are staple food for us(probably rice and miso soup roles are quite close to pasta for Italian).

Recently, sushi is getting much familiar among people, because we can have cheap sushi at grocery store or even convenience store, also number of conveyor-belt sushi restaurant is significantly increasing, they serve sushi at quite cheap price(1 plate = less than 1$).

No, Japanese don't eat sushi everyday.

I want to second Renés comment. Some other foreign inspired dishes that come to my mind are tonkatsu, omuraisu and kare raisu...

No, we don't eat sushi every meal. I just realized when I eat out with my friends, we don't go to sushi restaurant at all.

I like sushi but I don't eat it often. I eat pasta about three times a week though. Oh, I'm Japanese.

I also like noodles (ramen). I think many Japanese people are really into it. There are many delisious ramen you would be hooked on in Japan.

There was a conveyer-belt sushi restaurant, which is cheap, close to my previous apartment, so I used to go there like once evey few weeks, but now I can't remember when was the last time I had sushi..

I just don't feel like eating sushi.
