Basic Finnish Phrases

From morning till night:

Hyvää huomenta = Good morning

Hyvää päivää = Good day

Hyvää iltaa = Good evening

Hyvää yötä = Good night

You can also drop the "Hyvää" and just say Huomenta/Päivää/Iltaa/Öitä


Informal greetings:

Terve = Hello/Hi (Also means "healthy")

Hei/Moi/Moro = Hi

There are a lot more, but these are the most common ones in my opinion.

All of these also function when bidding farewell.


More farewells:

Heippa = Bye

Hei, hei = Bye bye

Nähdään = See you

Hyvää päivänjatkoa = Have a nice day (Works in formal situations aswell)

Introductions:

Hauska tavata = Nice to meet you

Minun nimeni on... = My name is...

Mikä sinun nimesi on? = What is your name? (Informal)

Mikä teidän nimenne on? = What is your name? (Formal)

Minä olen ___ vuotta vanha = I am ___ years old

Kuinka vanha sinä olet? = How old are you? (Informal)

Kuinka vanha te olette? = How old are you? (Formal)

Olen kotoisin/Minä tulen... = I am from/I come from...


Conversational:

Kyllä = Yes (Both formal and informal)

Joo = Yes (Informal)

Ei = No

Kiitos = Thank you

Ole hyvä/Eipä kestä = You're welcome

Anteeksi = Excuse me

Sori = Sorry (Informal)
