Hi everybody...Psychologist Richard Wiseman, the author of "59 Seconds: Change Your Life in Under a Minute," has a simple test to determine whether you are a good .....or not.
Draw a capital letter Q on your forehead... which side of your forehead did you draw the tail of the letter Q?
Please do this simple test before reading the result....
If you drew the tail on the left side of your forehead (so it could be read by someone facing you), then you are aware of how other people perceive you and you are good at lying.
If you drew the tail on the right side of your forehead (so you can read it), then you are more of an introvert and you are bad at lying.
I wonder how much this this test is true....If you did this test about yourself, how much it was true? and in general, do you think is it true?

What do correlations prove statistically? That two variables change but it doesn't prove that one variable causes the other. This "psychologist" magician is doing a lot of money going to big conferences and trying to prove that if you want to do good business you may change perspective. Not a big or original deal. So he can be a good example if you are trying to think how to make a lot of money in your life. But not if you want to be a good scientist and improve the wellbeing of people.
I say it's rubbish because regularly people try to prove odd things giving them pseudo-scientific proof. And psychology, unfortunately, is a science where everybody thinks he is an expert. I saw that this Wisemen (what a beautiful family name!) is professor in some British university. I think he better should teach economics, or marketing, or advertisement then psychology.
But I know also that people proclaim here on italki that science is rubbish, that the earth is flat etc.
So since you use the term "statistical correlations" I thought maybe it's worthwhile to make a point otherwise I wouldn't bother. My main interest being on Italki is to learn languages.
That's why I actually said the main idea is not rubbish because it's based on research and some statistics, BUT you can't rely on it to judge people, that would be nonsense. There are a dozen of researches based on this kind of correlations and it is totally common in science and research. <o:p></o:p>
So what I want to say is that, can we deny the idea behind of what Wiseman has told? No. <o:p></o:p>
Can we rely on it and assume someone drawing Q on the left side is liar? Again No!
And what you told about making money out of these things and advertisement and etc is irrelevant to what we are discussing now. That would be another discussion. <o:p></o:p>
