Anyone could tell me the point of giving negative points?
I know there are lots of haters around but I don't see how is it useful to value negatively a question or an answer.
In my opinion, just the effort of writing itself deserves a positive point (unless you strongly disagree, in that case just ignore it)
Hello, Alberto. I have two opinions to your idea.
Firstly, in terms of philosophical attitude, I perfectly agree with you. Just hitting the "like" button and not "dislike" even when we actually disliked a certain post, the amount of happiness would be maximized. Only in extreme cases, it might work as a sort of deterrence. By the way, I "liked" your post actually :)
Meanwhile, speaking from a perspective of psychology, I find it also important to try to understand why some people dare to do that. One hypothesis is that they are creating the sense of capability in his or her mind by evaluating something from a mentally higher angle, which is in fact imaginary though.
One of the constructions used by my friend doesn't actually have a counterpart here. There are 3 possible ways to fix it. All of them are not ideal, and are not particularly colloqial:( 3 corrections used these 3 approaches. My favorite used the less common option: still her choice is fine for a person who is a dedicated reader in Russian. You meet it in Russian literature.
Apparently someone just didn't know such an expression.
Other 2 possible translations were not flawless, still I think I would not choose that 3d option. What make me like that correction, is that she noticed 2 more mistakes that others skipped, and employed better style in another phrase where she had a choice. I think, this lady was simply better educated.
