I'm asking this question because we're currently living under the sanctions and are financially cut out. Major international payment services are not available here. Therefore, it's quite difficult to transfer money to or from Iran. So, I was wondering how Farsi teachers on italki get paid despite such difficulties?!
@Nasim & Aliph
Thank you for your comments. A friend of mine told me that italki used to have the bank transfer option. They removed it after a while, though. In that case, there is no way for italki to send the money to any bank.
A healthy dose of sanctions circumvention is necessary sometimes :))
Despite sanctions there are still tourists visiting Iran either individually (carrying their foreign currency in their wallet since credit cards like Visa aren’t accepted) or with a travel agency to whom they prepayed their trip. So money is flowing in and out. Banks are still working and having exchanges.
So I imagine italki sends the money to a certain bank. Italki is a Chinese company from Shanghai. To my knowledge China isn’t boycotting Iran. Maybe I am wrong.
@Aliph,
I'm trying to figure this out. I hope someone who lives in Iran and teaches Persian on italki will leave a comment here.
