Can you sleep on the overnight bus or plane? I can't. I don't get enough sleep before my flight on purpose, but I can't always sleep on the plane. When I took an airplane from Japan to the US, I couldn't sleep so I watched films for 13 hours lol. This is true of bus, too.

Can you sleep on the overnight bus or plane?

I always sleep well on public transportation, bus, planes, train.
The tip to have a good sleep is that I always have my jacket so i can cover my face and sleep tight.
My best overnight experiences was the night bus from Nagoya to Tokyo. The bus quiet and clean, with a free blanket and toilet.

One time, I remembered i even slept on the boat after scuba diving, but that time I put my towel to cover my body. haha

I can sleep on overnight buses and planes. Also I like to nap when catching buses and trains during the day too.

To get to sleep I close my eyes, then focus on my breathing for a few minutes before relaxing more. Sometimes you need to adjust the headrest, or slump over a tray-table so you do not suddenly wake up from falling, or banging your head on the window or your seat partner.

If you are stressed or excited your cortisol levels go up and consequently it's difficult for people to relax or fall asleep. So, for some people excitement or stress could be the reason why they can't sleep. Moreover, if you miss sleep before your journey, cortisol levels go even higher and so the vicious circle begins.

I can sleep practically everywhere, even standing up with opened eyes(what's because I am a dreamer maybe :)) Apart the jokes, the only places where I cannot sleep are the station and the train. In the first one I'm afraid to lose my bus, in the second I don't want someone to steal something from me (because once it happened...)

I usually have trouble falling asleep during long plane rides or car rides. I can never fully fall asleep unless I'm extremely tired. I took an overnight train in Japan once, and I did not sleep at all. The lights were on the entire time, and I tried to block out the light by putting my jacket over my face. It didn't help... Oh, I wasn't in a sleeper car, I was just in the normal passenger car sitting in a normal seat, so that could be another reason. At least during long plane rides they try to simulate day and night with the lighting system, which at times can be helpful.
