Connect to Skype or connect on Skype ?
Hi guys,

I'm not sure about these sentences. Which one do you think is correct?
1) I will connect to Skype.
2) I will connect on Skype.

Really both are correct, but in different ways. The first one you're saying you're going to connect to the actual program (Skype). The second one you're saying you will connect with something/someone on Skype.

If your intent is to let someone know that you will contact them using Skype:

1) When I get home I will contact you via Skype.

2) When I get home I can connect with you on Skype.

3) I will call you on Skype when I get home.

4) We can skype when I get home.

My preference would be (3) or (4). Note that (4) has turned the program Skype into a verb 'skype'. It's like when we use the noun Google as a verb 'to google' i.e. I will google that later.

Thank you very much for your answer. Do you think these sentences are correct?
When I will be back at home, I will connect to Skype.
When I will be back at home, I will connect on Skype to talk with you.

Depends on what you are trying to say. I would understand “connect to skype” as connecting to the skype servers or network with the client software but I suppose this is kind of rare as people usually think of skype as something on their computer.

“Connecting on skype” I understand as using skype as a platform to connect with someone else. You could for example say to someone “let’s connect on skype” or “let’s use skype to connect” and those would mean about the same thing.

i think you can think about it this way; with “to” you are dealing with something that you can actually point at. That is the thing that you are doing something to. With “on” you are standing or working on the surface of that thing to do something else.
