French language varieties
I’m wondering: are there major differences between France French and French from say, some African countries (or other French speaking areas around the world? And if so, what would they be and would it be confusing to learn one variety and try to use it in another country?

French from France and from Canada is as different as English from England and English from the USA.
It is mostly a difference in vocabulary and pronounciation.
Even though I am fluent in French and I have been living in France for years I was unable to recognize the language some people were speaking in Canada until one of them said the word OUI and I finally understood it was actually French.

Bonjour
