For web-to-web calls (including through the mobile app), there is no charge for Skype.

I strongly prefer Skype over the iTalki classroom. When I use Skype, I can have Google Docs open for note-taking. I can schedule my Skype calls and have them all lined up and easy to see, which is more accessible than iTalki’s time-to-lesson countdown clock.

Hi Amber! I've never used Italki classroom. I always use Skype to my classes here on Italki. There is no charge once you are not calling a phone. All you have to do is to create a Skype account, then you will add your teacher/tutor as a contact and start the class. There are several features on Skype that I enjoy, one of them is the possibility to record your class to review it later. Hope this helps!

I think most people use Skype! It is completely free, they don't charge for any calls to or from anywhere. I haven't personally tried any Italki classrooms, but I've made many friends on here using the community tool and learnt languages by practicing with them on skype.
