I love Carla Bruni. Quelqu'un m'a dit was the first song I learned in French.

I also like those old songs such as Le temps de l'amour by Francoise Hardy, l'hymne a'amour by Edith Piaf and Tu t'laisses aller from the movie Une femme est une femme.

I discovered Coeur de Pirate some days ago and I liked that style a lot.

Though, they consider him 'classics' now. If French children occasioanly study him in secondary school (as it happens in some francophonic countries), i'm afraid their persception will be much different from mine.
For me his pronunciation is especially clear, while lyrics are fun enough to translate. Which enabled me to pick up some French without intention to learn it.

Stromae is a very popular francophone musician. Marie-Mai is also quite popular, and Coeur de Pirate is lovely. David Giguère is lesser known, but he's good.
