Introduction of a Hong Kong Local Film "Perhaps Love" Being asked by a friend in italki whether I will introduce some Hong Kong local films and occasionally his establishment of a new topic on Valentine, on the other hand for practice my writing, I would like to introduce this named “Perhaps Love” film. Now it may be very long past my first sight of this movie, but its story I am talking about is still unforgettable because of the specialty that in combine of fantastic musical and realistic scenes inside the screen. I just admire that how wise is the playwright by using a wonderful skill that features a device of “a play within a play”, or also known as “a story within a story”. Once again, the movie name is called “如果.爱” (In English, it is “Perhaps Love”). Of course, at the beginning, when I was just concentrating such a name of “old school” style, I thought it was with no different to other popular love films in Hong Kong consisted of pop stars actors / actresses and some simpleminded stories of love affairs. However, encouragement from some criticizes and introductions in some magazines, I eventually came to the cinema and watched the movie. It is actually not in ordinary type indeed. Later on, around a year after the movie had been put down from screens, medium reported that the movie script, soundtrack music and Hong Kong director Peter Chan were greatly admired and recognized by various film critics’ organizations among Hong Kong, Taiwan and other oversea counties. As an artwork not totally come to culture and literature, but more likely to a commerce type, of course, the story would not be as complicated as some stimulated deep thought literature movies originally assumed. It simply depicted that a real-life love triangle among a Mainland director Nie Wen (acted by Jacky Cheung), his Mainland actress girlfriend Sun Na (acted by Zhou Xun) and Hong Kong actor Lin Jian-dong (acted by Takeshi Kaneshiro), with love and hate in between, as well as the struggling of living and relationships, the contradictions between present and the past moments.
