Text: the only widespread martial art in Italian history is fencing: during the Middle Ages and 'til the 800, knowing how to fence was necessary to every high-ranking gentleman. Even though fencing is still today a very practiced sport in Italy, a large number of teens got into martial arts from the East, and therefore a lot of gyms have been opened, teaching arts coming from China, Japan, Korea and Thailand. This phenomenon also had an influence on the Italian language, where a lot of words refering to those arts, like Wushu, Taijiquan, ecc, entered. In some cases, it's martial arts, with their philosophies and life styles they carry, that attracted a lot of teens to study Eastern languages and cultures.
