Do you know the game "MIKADO"?
Do you know the game "MIKADO"?
One of my foreign friends asked me if the pick-up sticks game came from Japan. Surely, Mikado is a Japanese word and it means an emperor of Japan, however, I'm not familiar to the game. According to Wikipedia, the origin is Europe and it seemed to be popular there.
When I went to Italy, I found a snack named "MIKADO". Actually, it's same as a Japanese snack named "Pocky". It's a coined word that came from Japanese onomatopoeia, but it means bad or negative meaning in English. That's why the name was changed in foreign countries. I've known the story but I didin't know that the name of the snack is related to the one of the game. I'd like to play it someday :)
