“What a Wonderful World” is a song written by Bob Thiele and performed and first recorded by Louis Armstrong in 1967. One verse of the songs states: “I see friends shaking hands Saying how do you do They’re really saying I love you” I like the song. In fact, I think it is a delightful one, though not one of my favourite songs of all time, if you know what I mean. But anybody can recognise, in its lyrics, a celebration of the beautiful things of the world. But, in reference to this particular verse, I wonder whether Thiele was tripping when he wrote it, or he honestly thought that people have this in mind when they shake hands.
