It was sunny today. A rare earthquake struck the city next to us and we felt it too. After dinner, Dad was lounging on the couch when he suddenly shouted, "Mom! The whole building is shaking!" I wouldn’t have noticed without him. Then, the chandelier began to sway. After a few rapid jolts, small gadgets and ornaments tumbled from shelves, scattering across the floor. Honestly, I wasn’t scared in the moment; it just caught us completely off guard. But thinking back, those falling objects were a clear sign we should have run outside. Instead, we stayed still like sitting ducks. If the quake had been stronger or lasted longer, we could all be in heaven now. Luckily, it hasn’t done no real damage, and the shaking quickly faded. It felt like a once-in-a-century event, worth jotting down.

It's usually recommended to get under a desk or a table during an earthquake instead of exiting a building.

The whole building is shaking!" I wouldn’t have noticed without him. Then, the
chandelier began to sway. After a few rapid jolts, small gadgets and ornaments
tumbled from shelves, scattering across the floor. Honestly, I wasn’t scared in
the moment; it just caught us completely off guard. But thinking back, those
falling objects were a clear sign we should have run outside. Instead, we stayed
still like sitting ducks. If the quake had been stronger or lasted longer, we
could all be in heaven now. Luckily, it hasn’t done no real damage, and the
shaking quickly faded. It felt like a once-in-a-century event, worth jotting
down.
