Hello, everyone!
I hope you are all having a great weekend.
I was wondering if someone could help me...
What is the difference between 'journalist' and 'reporter' ?
Sometimes I see TV reports being called 'journalists.'
Thanks for your help! 😊

• A journalist gathers information, analyzes, and writes whereas a reporter presents all this in electronic media and print media. • A reporter is the person who talks on TV and radio and needs a presentable personality whereas a journalist is often behind the scenes.
E.g. Unfortunately, this does not come as too much of a shock as for more than a decade, China has ranked among the top three jailers of journalists in the whole world.

Hi! 'Journalists' are people who work in the journalism field. So people who work in TV and radio broadcasting (specifically with news), gazettes, newspapers etc. are journalists. Out of these people, 'reporters' are specifically the people who gather and investigate news to *report* them to a news vehicle. So the word 'reporter' usually conveys a specific role or responsibility inside the journalism world, whereas 'journalist' is more of a broad term.

There is no real difference. They are close synonyms.
There may be some subtle shades of meaning.
"Journalist" and "journalism" are slightly more dignified than "reporter" and "reporting." A university might have a course on "journalism." They would not call it a course on "reporting."
A reporter is anyone who works for a newspaper, or another form of news medium, and writes stories.
The word "journalist" suggests a reporter who is a professional, and adheres to standards of professional ethics.
