Spurious is more academic. You might question authenticity in a more refined way.

Here is the difference I find. It may not be what you are looking for.... Spurious is a word nobody uses. I am guessing few have heard or read it. We know and love bogus. We use it, or at least enjoy it being used. Between the two, spurious is bogus.
