"TO GET ORIENTED" means to get settled into a situation and to know where everything is. When you're a new employee, you usually are given an "ORIENTATION" on your first day of work. Human Resources gives you a bunch of forms to fill out, they talk about your benefits and how to use them, and then they might give you a short tour of the company to show you where the lunchroom is. Finally, they introduce you to your boss and coworkers.
If you are new to the country, in addition to getting ORIENTED, you might have to ADAPT TO some changes or differences from the way you normally do things, like the way we write down the date in the United States (June 1, 2012, or 6/1/12) or the time (2:30 p.m., not 14:30; only the U.S. military uses a 24-hour clock). If you can't ADAPT TO the cultural differences, then you'll probably be looking for the first opportunity to transfer back to your home country.

Oriented is about directions and understanding.
Adapted is about fitting in and surviving. It will include oriented.
along these lines, also look at the word acclimated.

As Craig said To become -or- get oriented means to get to know your surroundings and your way around. But adapt TO a situation: Once I'd become oriented in the new university, I had to adapt to my new schedule.
