6 the confusing sentence from great expectations by Charles Dickens
P125 chapter 29
I knew I loved her against reason, against promise, against peace, against hope, against happiness, ....I loved her none the less because I knew it, and it had no more influence in restraining me than if I had devoutly believed her to be human perfection.
My question: 1.I can not understand the"none the less"part.
2. I'm always confused with the"no more...... than..."sentence pattern. I've met several "no more.... than if...." In this book. Confused every time. who kindly explain?
Many thanks.
