For example, in the U.S.A.  we would express the idea this way:

"It gives me time to return  home."

Using "for" as in the first sentence, we would express it this way:

"It gives me time for the return trip home."

Neither of the two constructions  in your question would be common  constructions.

The basic idea here, is a concern for the phrasing  "return TO  home".

The common expression, in the U.S.A.  at least, is that people "return home" but not  
Return---TO---Home.  That is an unsual construction.
