Can't we convey the same meaning without 'in' in the following sentence? And what's the use of 'in' in the following sentence?

The US is now sending in a team to help

You can write the sentence with or without 'in'.  However, there is a very slight difference in meaning between the two, in my opinion, and that is "sending in a team" implies that there is an important reason for doing so.  You can send a team for any reason but you tend to send a team 'in' to deal with some sort of situation.
