what does "walk by" mean? 1) Please what does "I'm walking by the river" mean? Is it same as "I'm walking in the river" or "I'm walking along the river"? 2) I know meaning of "I'm going by car" and "fly by plane" and it confuses me in relation to what "walk by the river" literally means. Thank you answer!!! :-)

"walking by the river" means "walking nearby or next to" the river- here, 'by' is being used to indicate relative location. Other examples: "he put the keys by the door", "I live by the forest" "go by plane" means that you are traveling on the plane; 'by' is being used to indicate the method you are using to do something (to go). Other examples: "I will talk to her by phone", "You open the door by turning the handle"

Thank you Charles! Well, I can say "walking by the river" is the same as "walking along the river", is that right?
