Other way to say "to take advantage of" when I am referring to visit a place in the same journey Is there a shorter way to say the following instead of "to take advantage of"? "I went to the market and I took advantage of this (journey) to visit my aunt." It feels like this term has a negative connotation and should not be used in this case.

"make/made good use of this journey" Also, "take advantage of this journey" does not have to have negative connotations in this context. "Exploit" has negative connotations, usually. Unless you are exploiting a weakness of an enemy, in which it has positive connotations for you. :)

You could say: I went to the market and used it as a chance to visit my aunt [since she lives nearby]. By the way - "Journey" isn't really the right word here. "Journey" connotes long, epic travel. (Unless you're trying to be funny through exaggeration.)
