就这个句子而言，我觉得and加不加都可以。不过原句还有其他问题。首先stare后面要加at。第二，they是复数，他们之间只有一个手机，还是每个人都有一个？如果每个人都有一个，那么手机也应该是复数的，即they are staring at their phones。第三，intensively用在这里不妥。第四，contact后面要直接加宾语，不要加with。可以说make contact with，那就是make是动词。contact当动词的时候，不能加with。
