How to read the sentence below? An amount of foreign currency, usually one unit or one hundred units is taken as the standard and the equivalent amount of home currency is marked after it.the sturcture is a little bit weird.What does "it" refer to in the end?

It could use better punctuation and it's definitely a bit unclear. I would assume "it" refers to the foreign currency, but I'm not certain what meaning of"marked" is intended here. Does this passage refer to some kind of chart or table? What sentence came before this one?
