What are common questions in Japanese to ask how someone has been recently? If you are trying to have a conversation, I think it's probably useful to know some common questions. Like: what have you been up to lately? How's university/work? When are you free (from work/school)? How's your family? What plans do you have for the future (e.g. after university)? (or if on the phone) Would you like to meet up sometime? Questions like these. If you can think of any others, I'd be very grateful to hear them. Thanks!

If you have not seen your friends for a long time, you can say " Long time no see. ( HISASHIBURI). How have you been up to? ( SAIKIN DOU SHITETANO?) How are you doing? ( GENKI DATTA?) like these. just try to use them. In Kansai Area we say, " DONAI SHITETAN? " :p
